Kinnaird Head Lighthouse

Kinnaird Head Lighthouse in Fraserburgh first shone its light out to sea in 1787.  It was the first lighthouse constructed by the Northern Lighthouse Board.  Unusually it was built into an existing castle.

The light was extinguished in 1991 when the lighthouse was decommissioned and was replaced by an automatic light remotely controlled from Edinburgh.  It sits atop a small lighthouse built close by the original site (see first extra).
