Broken NHS

I’d a visit to A&E this afternoon to visit a family member who received first class care for an acute medical problem that needed hospital attention.

When I left there were 8 ambulances waiting to deliver patients to A&E. That’s 8 crews that were sitting with patients who couldn’t be doing the “ day job”. The problem is nothing to do with Covid. It’s the inevitable consequence of an ageing population; the complete lack of investment in social care by governments of all colours for many years; and political dogma that in patient hospital beds should be reduced. Hospitals are therefore full of elderly patients who cannot be discharged as there are no carers ( as who would be a carer when you can earn more working in a supermarket) and no nursing home beds. And this is a quiet time of year. I dread to think what the winter will bring.
