A Very Special Day

In June I had a 'significant birthday (80)' and my main present from Mrs MD was a trip for us both (see Extra 1) on 'The Dalesman' train from Settle to Carlisle (although we joined the train at Skipton....).  The weather was ok when we left Skipton and we were looking forward to the view whilst we travelled over the iconic Ribblesdale Viaduct (see Extra 2).  The weather gradually deteriorated and it poured down whilst we were in Carlisle, where we visited the cathedral (see Extra 3).
No matter - the journey was great. We travelled First Class and had tea and a Breakfast Roll (Bacon Sandwich) on the outward journey and sandwiches and a scone on the return (plus a wee dram).
The day out has been fantastic - everything went perfectly - apart from the weather.  Thank you Mrs MD - a wonderful birthday present :-)
