The Biscuit Girls

These girls are the Book Club girls and were not eating biscuits but we had read the Biscuit Girls by Hunter Davies . Essential reading for anyone who lives in the North West - tales of Carr's biscuit factory and Carlisle. I learned about the nationalisation in 1916 of the pubs in Carlisle in an attempt to control drinking by the munitions workers who came down from Gretna, just a short train ride away.  See here for more info if you are interested
