Rambling roses

We had a loss in the family yesterday, so today I took time to stop and smell the roses. Or at least snap them, as in this case, they are too high for my nose to reach.

There is an abandoned cottage over the wall from our communal courtyard. This rose is using a climbing hydrangea as a frame, sending long shoots eight or nine feet in the air above the garden with clusters of heavy blooms. It looks like it might be a musk rose, but I just have to imagine the scent as it dances in the breeze.
