Subtle heritage

There’s a field in Haddington, a proper field that is cultivated which has often puzzled me as to why it hasn’t been built on. And I may never know but what caught my eye was this pattern is the sets on the footpath beside the field. It’s the only pattern in an otherwise monotonous path. Another mystery I thought until I saw an aerial image of the field and there in the field visible as a mark in the crops is a World War I training trenches it’s shape - yup you guessed it. So this little pattern is a subtle nod to a piece of wartime heritage. Nice.
