Mono Lake

We knew about the weird tufa formations in and around the lake (formed by calcium carbonate bubbling up through the lake, now left high and dry by receding water level) but hadn't realised how beautiful this place is. Also stacked full of birds - thousands upon thousands of Eared (Black-necked) Grebes spend every autumn here.
