NYMR Rally - backblip

With our all day ticket we took our seats in a wonderful corridor compartment which we had all to ourselves on the first train out of Grosmont to Whitby.  We stayed on the train which went back all the way to Pickering and with teas, coffees and biscuits we soaked up all the wonderful scenery.  There were lots of keen railway enthusiasts lining the way in fields and on any available vantage point they could find and most of them had camera lenses to make your eyes water and your shoulders ache.  Again, we stayed put on the train which after a short wait steamed its way back again.  We alighted at Goathland, the village where the 1992 TV  series 'Heartbeat' was filmed and some bits from Harry Potter.  We had lunch in the Aidensfield Arms (Goathland Hotel) and were taken right back in time with the old feel atmosphere of the place with Scipps Funeral Services and Aidensfield Garage opposite.

After lunch we had a wander round the village and a good run for Gemdog, who was unphased being surrounded by sheep who roam the village freely as they graze the grassy areas.  Back on another train pulled by another magnificent engine we went back to Pickering, alighted there for a while, exploring a bit of the town and then caught the last train back to Grosmont.

What a wonderful steam packed day we've had and enjoyed every moment of it.
