Between fen and mountains

Winter approaching

There was a coating of snow on Canigou this morning. I doubt it will last for the winter as the forecast is for sunshine and warmer temperatures for next week. I played doubles tennis this morning. We had a good match and were pleased to finish one set all as one of our opponents was the tennis coach from Prades. In the afternoon, I went for a second visit to an exhibition about the climate risks that can affect us, earthquakes, avalanches, floods, storms including hail, landslips and subsidence. There was a school group there and the children were very interested. They all scurried under tables and against solid walls when an earthquake warning was shouted out, having learned the procedures during the session. I shall return tonight for a talk about the devastating floods in 1940 that swept away nearly all the hotels in the village.
