When September Ends

I’d forgotten I had stuck a few gladioli bulbs in the garden. A couple of them have just decided to flower.
Very wet and chilly today. 
There’s a strange smell in the house this afternoon, freshly painted radiator getting hot for the first time.
We caved and fired up the boiler earlier.
