Chilled

Went for a boat trip today as a rest from the walking! I had another poor night’s sleep, but once again decided to just push on through and it was due to be a nice day so we set off early to catch the boat, after a nicer than we expected cup of coffee and fruit toast from an otherwise empty foodcourt cafe on the Southbank.
Interesting commentary about the history of Melbourne and its origins on a swamp (and the murky role played by John Batman). Led us to look up and read more about it all…
We landed at Williamstown, not far away from the city but like a different world (reminded me a bit of Staten Island), with old houses lining the street, the yacht club and lots of cafes with outdoor seating. We took a stroll along the various streets, enjoying the warm sunshine, then returned to the cafe where we’d seen some people eating delicious looking brunches, and tucked into the same. It was lovely…and even better to be in the sun and warmth after some chilly days. Looked like the city was still cloudy but we were in our own little bubble!
Boat rather late returning for us but we eventually got back on and chugged home (and I had a micro sleep! We do keep nodding off suddenly but usually in the evenings so this was a bit early!). This was the last bridge…built to claim the tallest bridge title but disputed because the towers aren’t actually part of the structure of the bridge.
Home via train and bus as usual. We’re getting so used to navigating the transport here - feels like we’ve been here weeks and are locals! We laughed about the various waypoints on the journey that we’ve been recognising (sure it’s the brain’s attempt to search for familiarity and establish patterns!)….the tennis arena (why did we think of Roger Whittaker rather than Rod Laver?!), the cricket ground, the big tooth outside a dentist’s, the IVF hospital, the university with its mad zig zag bus station etc etc..
We bought some more snacks for supper then K watched the Grand Prix qualifiers in Singapore whilst I read the review documents for next week. Decided to take some Nytol tablets tonight.
