Not a Kelpie......

Do you ever get mornings when you wish you'd stayed in bed ? Today was one of them .
After yesterday's stormy wind and sideways rain, it started dry and bright. So good ,so far.
Was just heading off to feed the first lot of cows when Ali phoned to say there was a calf stuck in a straw heck . So after a bit of buggering about we managed to get it free, more or less unharmed.
Then I went to feed the 7 bulls in the field at the road end.
Could only find 6 , so headed off round the field only to discover the roadside fence wrecked and the missing limousin bull, L18, dead as a door nail.
By the looks of things they have been fighting and either bulldozed him through or over the fence where he was between the fence and the hedge. It couldn't have been one of the old ones or lame ones,oh no,it had to be one of my good ,canny homebred ones. Bugger.
Headed off down the road to feed the heifers as I hadn't seen them yesterday cos of the torrential rain, then a quick shift and off into the big smoke to pick up Littlemiss from the school open morning and take her to the Edinburgh Uni vet open day at the Bush at Roslin
The traffic was horrendous, and just made it in time by the skin of my teeth.
While she was away,I had my lunch in the canteen ( a cheap feed by the way ) then had a wander round the main building. Have been at vet meetings there but never had a good look around. Was quite interesting.
Back home tonight and managed to extract the dead bull with the loader tractor then repair the fence. A few hairy moments when the other 6 bulls got a smell of the blood from the dead one,but managed to get out the field in one piece.
So not only have I lost one of my favourite bulls, but will now need to try and buy another one before they go to the cows on 1 Nov .
More expense,it never ends !
This horse's head was outside one of the vet buildings, opened by HRH Princess Anne. Extras include the founder of the Dick Vet and a wall mural of Alexander the Great on his horse and this sculpture of a dog outside the small animal hospital
