More exploring

Woke to a cloudless sky…beautiful…after a good long sleep. Phew! Nippy in the morning and evening still but so lovely once the sun’s had a chance to warm things up.
We headed to Prahran to go to another market and with our trusty Myki cards topped up and the Moovit app to hand we navigated the trains and arrived easily. The market was smaller than we expected, so fairly swiftly moved on, by tram, to Queen Victoria market further north near the University quarter. We enjoyed exploring around the many stalls with their delicious looking produce, and skimming through the book stalls and other stuff, before negotiating our way through a demonstration that looked pretty small but ended up larger as they’d ere joined by other groups to March through the city, messing up a lot of tram and bus routes as we later found to our cost. They certainly had a lot of police around them but seemed peaceful enough….singing their protest songs to the tune of 500 miles by the Proclaimers which made me smile.
We picked up a borek and a hot dog from some stalls in the deli area before catching a tram to take us to St Kilda, slightly on a whim after a chat with the woman selling very overpriced baby clothes, one of which had some drawings of iconic Melbourne places on it and one of which was the Luna Park entrance at St Kilda. She mentioned the beach and a craft market, so we decided that sounded good for the next stop and off we went.
Lovely old Art Deco touches and lots of 1930s semis and terraced houses….must have been very grand back in the day. We walked around (thwarted in our attempt to find ‘the arts quarter’ that we saw (too few) signs to, but we found the iconic entrance to the tacky theme park and then went to the rather lovely beach. Had some tasty ice cream and sat on the beach front lapping up the sun and the atmosphere then caught a tram back to the city and went for a drink on the riverside at a packed bar…..lots of people, chat and laughter and lovely to sit in the last rays of the sun and watch the world go by.
We decided to try Oakleigh on the way home for some supper and decided on Greek food for a change. Had a salad and Kleftika which was delicious (although very unusually I couldn’t eat much, just felt too full despite only having had a hotdog all day). We speculated on why we’re eating far less than usual on this trip and talked about photos and the loss of early digital ones and consequently of chunks of our lives.
Home and I read the rest of the review materials whilst K watched the Grand Prix again (although was asleep through most of it) and then time for bed. Has felt a relaxing day although we never the less managed 14,000 steps!
