At last I have nailed it.  I have been trying for over three years to get this shot of the sun rising directly behind the Bass Rock, but the weather has been uncooperative until now.  A perfectly clear sky to the eastern horizon was all I needed and today I got it.

Each year there is a window of just three days, twice a year - 12 days after the autumn equinox and 12 days before the spring equinox, when this is possible
