Juke Box

I had to dig deep into the archives for this shot. I hope it is worth taking liberties with the rules  in order to retell a story which Lady Findhorn probably still remembers all too well.

Back in 2013 or '14, not long after we moved to Santa Rosa, we were on a road trip with Lady Findhorn and His Lordship, driving home from Vancouver. Being in a car for days on end is a true test of a friendship and we tested it further as we drove through Oregon intending to take a side trip to Crater Lake. Before we got to the turnoff however, we had some kind of difficulty with the car. I can't remember  what it was, but it involved dumping the trip to Crater Lake with it's lovely old lodge and stunning views and carrying on down the highway in a white knuckle drive to get to the nearest town which had a place big enough to repair the car before it broke down completely.

As is usually the case with car dealerships, the one in Medford was in an area devoid of amenities and we were hungry and without wheels. We were directed to a cafe/roadhouse down the way which had probably thrived before it was bypassed by the highway, but had clearly seen better days by the time we got there.

The high point was certainly not the food but the working Wurlitzer juke box in great condition was intriguing, though I'm pretty sure our musical choices were limited to country and western tunes along the lines of 'my girlfriend left me, my dog died and i need another drink....' I don't know what Donald Duck had to do with anything except perhaps for the fact that he was neon which fit the general retro theme.

We had worried that we might have to spend the night in a motel within walking distance of the car dealership but we were spared that delight when the right part was located, the car was repaired and we carried on down the road,  still friends

We had a lot of adventures with those two and our friendship remained intact throughout them all. John and I both agree that if we ever get on another long haul flight over the pond, it will be to see Edinburgh and Lady Findhorn.

Many thanks to Vik1 for hosting this month and also for reminding me how much music, like art, can take you back to a forgotten place and time.
