Hanging in there - flowers toughing it out!

October is upon us and autumn is progressing. Some trees are bare now, others still filled with colour. Most flowers have died back. But some flowers are hanging on. This cosmos is showing its age, a little tattered around the edges, but it's still there, holding on through the autumn rains and the chilly nights (but still no frost).
Sweet peas and hare bells and large yellow "daisies" and corn flowers also have a few toughies, still producing flowers.
Today I picked the last of the potatoes, and the broad beans. We still have fresh blackberries for breakfast, but they are often small, misshapen, and a little watery. As are the bilberries that I thought were finished a week or so back. They aren't at their best, tasting a bit watery and floury, but they are still delivering their vitamin kick to breakfast.
Each day when the sun shines, each day without frost, feel like bonus days, before the grey autumn, and then the dark winter, sets in.  I do love the changing of the seasons. The joys of one season leave me wishing it lasted forever, but when it changes the joys of the new season leave me beaming too.  But just now, let autumn last forever!
(Finally up-to-date - this picture and two backblips!)
