Demoiselle

We had planned an inland walk to Sancreed to look at some more local ancient sites. The planned walk was 7.5 miles but we had to get to the start point, 1.5 miles over the fields on the way there and more than two miles on the return. That adds up to 11 miles but we didn’t bank on going wrong and trying to find our way out of several fields where there were footpaths on the map but they ended at an up passable hedge. We walked over 13 miles in total, very enjoyable to begin with but the wind although warm was blowing hard and I found the last 3 miles hard.
We visited another stone circle, Bascowen-un stone circle comprising 19 stones, one of which is quartz and the central standing stone leans towards the sunrise on midsummer’s day. It was on the way there that I first spotted my blip, it wasn’t settling but on the way back it did just long enough for me to take a photo, not the clearest. We had our lunch outside the church at Sancreed and then went to look at the underground holy well. We didn’t linger as a couple had taken up residence there. Next we visited CarnEuny, a well preserved courtyard house development, it may have been used since Neolithic times but what is seen today dates back to the period between the Iron Age and the late Roman times. There is a 12.5 metre long fog outside which is an underground tunnel. It was after we got to the hamlet of Brane that we took a wrong turn and were cursing the farmer for not maintains the footpaths and entry and exit points. We climbed over 15-20 granite styles which are all different and some are very tricky. At one point we saw two cyclists, we crossed a few fields, back on the road, we saw the same cyclists. The male stopped to chat and asked us where we were camped, not for us, we like our comfort. We think we have found the best converted barn ever with everything that you could want and very cosy.
