Bliss

I didn’t wake til after 9! Once we’d got ourselves organised (including doing some hand washing of clothes to put out on the little terrace….we’re sorely in need of a washing machine!) we walked round the corner to have breakfast in a little place called Combi. Delicious mushrooms and avocado on toast (K) and a healthy and zingy açai bowl with fruit and granola for me. We read some magazines about Byron Bay whilst we ate, and chatted to some people on the big shared table….checking what day of the week it was!
From there we mooched around the shops on the way to the beach and set off to the south walking in and along the water right to a little headland by the lighthouse. Lots of cloud on the horizon but we were lucky to be in the sunshine the whole time. Lovely temperature…perfect!
We climbed to the viewing point on the headland…gorgeous views and right above lots of surfers waiting on their boards for the right wave (there was a lot more waiting about than surfing!).
Very few shells or stones on the beach although we found a few in one spot….just miles of beautiful very fine sand that squeaked when we walked on the dry parts….and a few stranded small round jellyfish and lots of little holes surrounded by tiny sand balls. We suspected either tiny sand crabs or maybe some sort of worms were making the holes and balls.
Carried on around the town til we’d walked all the way round, then drove inland to a farm that we’d read about with a restaurant and deli etc. It wasn’t quite what we expected but did buy some tomato seeds for T and O and left as the restaurant was being prepared for a wedding. We tried another similar place (also with a wedding going on) and enjoyed looking round some galleries, homeware shops and vintage furniture places. I bought a little brass spoon.
Home and decided to go out for a drink in Happy Hour….another margarita and people watching. Dinner was early in a place called Bang Bang near the apartment…great ambience and delicious food (wagyu massaman curry and crispy wok fried chicken with cashews and peppers). More buskers and a generally lively feel to the evening on the streets.
Home and had a call with T when I saw he was at P’s house (this remote camera is amazing….to be able to see and hear what’s going on when I’m on the other side of the world is so helpful!). He’d been there all morning as the social care manager had been round to assess P for next steps. She was apparently very helpful and there seems to be a way forward…phew! We also planned the next few days of the holiday and find accommodation. All going well!
