Went for a wander by the a River Don today. The latest arrivals are sand martins - there were lots of them flying joyfully over the river and checking out potential nest sites along the retaining wall between the river and industrial units. Some seemed to favour the old style crumbling mortar gaps in the old walls, whereas these liked the look of the all mod cons drainage pipes.
