This tiny flint tool was found on the shore of Strangford Lough by my brother-in-law. It's about 40mm in length and judging by the relative crudeness of the working, is probably of the mesolithic period. That would make it about 9,000 years old. Living close to the shore, he has found a considerable number of similar worked flints.
Throwaway societies are older than you think!
