France

There are two blippers to thank for today's contribution to our collection of images of places mentioned by Lorna Lloyd in her Diary of the war (previously blipped in the LornaL journal). Thank you SparseRunner for taking a photograph that we can use to represent France (as a whole) in our blip-sourced 'album', and to Livresse, who sent it to the Platform to Platform project* team at h.hall@napier.ac.uk.

Lorna mentions France several times in her war diary. Her writing shows that she was especially upset on 14th June 1940, the day that the Germans began their occupation of the city. It's this diary entry that inspired us to use César Franck’s symphony in D minor as the theme tune to our podcast series of Lorna's Diary of the war. Lorna's chronicle of the fall of Paris (and the series theme tune) can be heard in episode 6.

If you are a blipper based in France, or have photographs from visits to the country, we would love to hear from you with images of some specific places. These are Bailleul, Boulogne, Dunkirk, Forest of Compiègne, the Maginot Line, the river Marne, Roncesvalles, and Wimereux.

*If you have just stumbled across this journal and are curious about this project, do please read the short summary.

Here's the full list of places that remain to be included in this journal. Please send any that you think suitable from your own archive (preferably not blipped before) to h.hall@napier.ac.uk. Thank you!
