Live it loud!

It's got to go!

When we moved in, some 36 years ago, we had a fireplace built rather than have one of the ones offered by the builder. We opted for handmade bricks with a large oak mantlepiece. The fire is a gas fired coal effect, which, when lit, looks extremely realistic. Sadly, it doesn't throw out as much heat as you would like or expect.

Over recent years, it has gotten used less and less and now never gets used in all but an electricity blackout. Guess what's heading our way.....

With that and the eye-waveringly high gas prices now, it is time to change.
There are some nifty wood-burning stoves that not only simply fit into the aperture, but are also highly efficient and also green and clean compared to open fire solutions. Sadly, not cheap.

Anyone else made such a change?
