The last four nights of our holiday were spent in a very quirky old house which was full of many curiosities and antiques.  The owner’s father had been a wood craftsman and had made some of the furniture and sculptures and managed to find many very interesting things in flea markets including these door locks which had huge keys.  The one on the front door was quite complicated to use as it involved lifting up and pulling various levers to open – not easy to do quickly.   The steep staircase was very narrow so each step was shaped so that only either the left or right foot could use every alternate step and our daughter slept in a “tent” among the rafters in the eaves.  It was quite an experience staying there but we preferred the ease of our first small apartment.
