The Rusty Hut, Honister mine

We walked the length of Buttermere, and up the miners track towards Haystacks today, but couldn't get across the torrent to reach Haystacks. We decided instead to go over Fleetwith Pike, which was wonderful, with great views down the Lake. Rather than descent the front of Fleetwith Pike, however, we walked down to Honister Quarry (past the wonderful Rusty Hut - surrounded by slate waste - and walked right down the Honister Pass, back to Buttermere village - ended up as a 12 miler. On the way down the Pass we came across an American couple in a rental car with a flat tyre and no spare, but they did have an inflator and the tyre weld, but were scared to try it. I got them sorted and back on their way in 15 minutes, my good deed for the day.
