Retrofit

A fitting view from the bus on the was home from a conference (IRL!) on the subject of retrofitting buildings to meet the targets for reducing our carbon emissions and just generally keeping climate change in check so we have a sustainable future.

It was focused more on upgrading historic buildings, but every time I go past this relatively modern building (formerly RBS) being torn down I wonder what is really happening with all that waste? And how long will it's successor last?

Did you know that work to repair and upgrade our existing buildings incurs VAT, whereas you pay less or none on demolition and new construction? It's a crazy world and our UK government seem to be doing little, if anything, to improve things. https://www.gov.scot/publications/vat-reduction-on-construction-letter-from-housing-minister/
