It’s the Med!

We ate in the hotel last night which I wouldn’t really recommend but we were tired so it was easy.

The breakfast was a decent buffet and it seemed to take ages to get ourselves organised so we didn’t leave for a walk till 10.30. Jenny feels very unfit so we decided we’d only do part of a walk then turn back when she felt she’d done enough. It was 28 degrees so we did feel hot. We walked up through Ghanjnsailem past an enormous church, the only Gothic one on the island before descending through terraces to a low, rocky shoreline backed by the Napoleonic fort of Chambray. Weaving through tidal salt pans, the path meanders along the coast passing a bay where divers were investigating scuttled ships. The path went past a watch tower built by the Knights of Malta to give warning of attacks from corsairs or Muslim forces. It was built in 1661. We reached the pretty Mgarr ix Xini Bay. The rough rocky path and steps down to a little cafe seemed a struggle but we managed and enjoyed a cold beer before returning the way we’d come. Going back was so much quicker as we didn’t have to keep referring to the notes of the directions. We stopped to chat to a nice man setting up his tatties. He’ll pick them in December so presumably he gets 2 or 3 crops a year. The total walk was about 6 miles which was enough in the heat. Jenny finds the steep climbs really tough but she takes her time and manages. I was surprised I coped so well.

We got back for a quick swim and relax before walking down to the harbour for dinner. We had red snapper, some veg and roast potatoes. The staff were lovely and by the time we’d finished the place was packed.

At home the ceiling of the hall is down and the dehumidifiers are installed there and in the back bedroom. It is very noisy
