Pinboard #14 (Saturday 15th October 2022)

I have just changed the picture sleeves on another pinboard that hangs beside the staircase. These were all discarded by the BBC Gramophone Library when the singles were bagged up for inclusion in the library; I do not own the singles therein, although some of the songs are in my collection on or from CDs.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
David Bowie - Wild Is The Wind (recorded September-November 1975, Los Angeles CA)
From the Station To Station album in a six-minute version, this was edited down to be a single in 1981. The song comes from the 1957 film Wild is The Wind, where it was sung by Johnny Mathis, but probably the best known version and the one that inspired Bowie's version was the Nina Simone rendition from 1966 (she'd earlier recorded it in 1959). During the album sessions Frank Sinatra visited the studio and praised Bowie's recording of Wild Is The Wind.

I like David Bowie, I have quite a few records by him, but I can't quite understand his deification since he passed on, especially on 6 Music who play tracks from Ziggy Stardust so frequently that I can't bear to hear anything from it anymore. I did have the album in 1972 and remember having a listening party at home that was attended by several female Bowie devotees, so I suppose I should be grateful!
