Rescuing Cats

Today I fell in love. This is Shelley. Shelley is a wee stunner.

Popped to Lothian Cat Rescue today to speak to them about doing my work's 'Give and Gain' day at their place, as well as volunteering occasionally in general. And hey, while there, might as well go and see the cats. Of course wound up wanting to take a dozen of them (at least) home. We did chat about how we go about introducing a new cat to Isla (given she's shown more than a little dislike for other cats in her garden) - apparently a younger male would be best, as the girls tend to keep the boys in check, and she'll just beat him up a little till he learns who the boss is. So Shelley, an 8 month old long-haired tabby, just isn't quite right.

I asked Mel later, if I'd said while we were there that we should take a chance on Shelley what would she have said. Her pause before, "She was beautiful" spoke volumes. Tormented now, because she really is a gorgeous little cat - but that means she will find a home, and we'll have time when volunteering to find just the right cat for Isla to keep in check.

There were, of course, lots of other cats, and some five day old kittens, with a lovely, friendly mum.

Morning started without foxes in the sun at the usual place, as a big black dog was running about, while somewhere unseen in the distance an owner shouted and whistled ineffectually. I did see one single fox, running for the den as the dog followed close behind. But what there was there was a little group of 3 baby squirrels... Leap, Nibble, Budding.

Other than that the day was garden centre, bike shop, gardening, putting paraphernalia on new wheel and back onto bike. Oh, and meeting a new garden visitor.

EDIT: Juuuuuust this second found out through Lothian Cat Rescue's Facebook page after I thanked them for our visit today, that Shelley has some new owners. Knew she wouldn't be there long :)
