Hawfinch

A friend in Deerness reported a hawfinch in her garden and today was the first chance I had to get out there. Winds are strong from the SW and I thought it made it likely that the bird would wait for lighter winds or northerlies before leaving a good source of food and it didn't take long for it to appear. Only the second I have seen and the first was 2 years and one day ago (according to a reminder on facebook). Shot through double-glazing, tried from the back door but it was a bit close for the birds which also included starlings, house sparrows, blackbirds and a solitary brambling.  On the cycle home I went past Mill Sand and there were about 80 bar-tailed godwit there, extra.
