Cheers, Oz!

Our last day, and woke early to finalise packing, eat the last of the avocados, tomatoes and mangoes we’d got in the fridge, and ensure we hadn’t left anything anywhere.
Set off in a taxi to drop our big bags at the train station for the day and enjoyed chatting to the driver about learning Italian and telling him the super useful sentences I’ve learned…we were all in stitches by the end of the trip. Dropped off the cases (more expensive than we expected) then caught the light railway up to the Brett Whiteley studio/gallery. Interesting to see his working space and get more of a sense of the man (not sure we liked him much though as he came across as a somewhat stereotypical 60s arts man, with all the good and bad parts that entails.
Weren’t allowed to take photos there, but we then wandered up to Lopes backers on Crown St and enjoyed a delicious pastry with coffee. D emailed to suggest we try something different from the traditional meat pie and mash that was going to be our last meal here, and since it was in Rose Bay that we’d thought about visiting before, we decided to go. Caught the bus to Rose Bay and browsed some interesting shops (I bought a bracelet in exactly the style I’ve been looking for) before coming to Charcoal Fish. Ooooh delicious (check out their Instagram!). I had the cod and gravy bun, purely on recommendation as it sounded weird, but it was perfection. They served all their mains with a selection of hot or cold salads…which were also gorgeous.
After we’d finished we took the chance of wandering along our last beach…which for a change had a few shells on it so I saved them to add to my collection.
Bus back into town and we got the squashed pennies that T and J both love (what a faff finding the machine again though!) then decided to walk back to the station and find a bar en route for our last happy hour. Of course given the route went through Chinatown we couldn’t resist some more Emperor’s puffs! Followed that up with a drink nearby… I had Aperol and soda and K had Prosecco, orange bitters and blood orange juice with Thai basil. What arrived was this very OTT concoction! Delicious, and a nice way to toast our great holiday.
We then caught the train to the airport, wrestled with lifts and escalators and checked in. Once we were through security we sprayed ourselves with our Chanel scents and settled down to wait for the plane…another busy one.
Wonder who’ll be Prime Minister when we get home?!
