Party

Slept from 8.30 to 6.30, with only a couple of short waking times in the night, and have felt pretty normal all day. It was a beautiful sunny morning so I walked to the shop to buy wrapping paper and when we’d wrapped Mx’s presents we drove down. Once again very slow journey with lots of traffic but we got there in the end, to find Mx as usual in a costume…this time as a knight in shining armour (last year he was superman, and Batman the year before!). He’ll be 5 in 3 days…how is that possible?!
AR flitted in, with no front teeth! Apparently they both fell out last weekend and she’s rather delighting in lisping all the time!
We had hot dogs with Ottolenghi salads and an incredible cake that Mt had recreated (exactly!) from a photo Mx had found online. He was so excited to have so much chocolate and doughnuts and blue icing on his chocolate cake….but having eaten some of the cake itself he decided he didn’t really like it and ran back off to play. I think he was a bit overwhelmed and wanted us to stop looking at him. AR was delighted with the boxing kangaroo pen and little erasers in the shape of Australian animals and disappeared off to make up complicated adventures with them all in her room.
Chatted to all the relatives then home and whilst T had a sleep (he’s in the middle of working two nights) Kt and I did some gardening, tidying away the dead plants in the hanging baskets and clearing the dead foliage elsewhere, whilst also planting out some that had lingered around too long in pots, then we took Heston for a short walk before an evening of Strictly and catching up on some online stuff (although doing my best to ignore the frenzy of speculation about Number 10’s new occupant)
