Seal Nursery under a Waterfall in a Mountain Creek

I was traveling back from Nelson to Christchurch and we decided to go via the East Coast and call into the Ohai Point Seal Colony Nursery just North of Kaikoura.

IF anyone has the chance then this is a must see 2 minute walk along an excellent track which meanders up a Mountain creek and is set in some primo Rain Forest. You cross a professionally made walk bridge and then about 20 metres further on you come to a bunch of pools and a lovely little waterfall.

The entire area is full of New Zealand Fur Seal pups. This is an amazing experience for anyone and I took video and plenty of photos and just sat and watched for quite some time and even though the South Island was being lashed by storms and heavy rain at times this area was very protected.

This is not only in fresh water but its up a Mountain creek and the mother has to come up here to feed her pups, I guess she climbs and swims all the way.
