I spent the morning defrosting the freezer and faffing and then walked over to Acorn Bank, full of families with it being half term, and went a bit further along the river where I saw the blue flash of a kingfisher darting under the rickety bridge leading to the railway line (quiet now following the derailment).

Then I picked up the birthday girl from work and we swam to the sound of the deer roaring across the lake and then went back to theirs for a lovely birthday supper that her husband had prepared with a splendid lemon cake, to boot.
Dipped into the news and watched Rishi Sunak declared the new leader of the Tory party and PM tomorrow.
