She always gets the window seat

We were treated to glorious views of the snow-covered Southern Alps on our last leg of the journey, flying from Auckland to Dunedin, our home in southern Aotearoa-New Zealand. My partner, Fiona, snapped the alps through the aeroplane’s cabin window on my cellphone. I have joined several of them together for this panorama for the ‘Wide-on-Wednesday’ challenge.

We were perched high in the sky above this white “Welcome Home” mat, so the image fits this week’s “Wide-Wednesday”.  But ‘BobsBlips’ and fellow Blippers please be aware - the raw images for this panorama are from last month (see yesterday’s blip for the way my holiday snaps are out of sync up until tomorrow). If this matters, please just exclude the image from your adjudication and advise - I will then cheerfully scrub the W-I-D-E tag from the Blip.

Since this image marks the end of our European journey, I’ll take the liberty of a more personal reflection on what's front-of-mind after seven weeks of travel: Mainly that’s overwhelming gratitude for…
·        Holding our first grandchild
·        Seeing him strengthen over 7 weeks
·        Seeing our son and daughter-in-law as parents-in-action
·        Seeing first-hand their living conditions and spaces, and interactions with friends around them Will help the reinstatement of planetary separation in the coming years
·        Fiona and I being reminded and talking about ourselves as parents in action
·        Love and support of my partner Fiona
·        Generosity of my wider family in Denmark and old friends in the United Kingdom
·        Being warm - escaping the middle of winter in south New Zealand
·        Vibrance and diversity of people
·        Amazing new places, foods and landscapes
·        Stupidities and ironies we witnessed
·        Art and architecture, through the ages to now
·        All that beauty and celebration of life with an ugly war in Ukraine, just a bit further over on the map
·        Confronting poverty and our own privilege
·        Wondering if we will ever get a chance to take a trip like this again
·        Touring, in part seeing through the eyes of a photographer for the first time in my life
·        Finding Blipfoto and Blippers to help make sense of it all!
·        Being reminded that we live in a beautiful country and community, far away from the maddening crowd.
