Borderlands

One of the reasons for heading west this half term was to hope for a better spell of weather to be able to head to see this art installation at Housesteads on Hadrian's Wall having seen it on Countryfile a few weeks back. Today was definitely best day on the forecast whilst we are over here - and that was after very heavy rain in the early hours of this morning. A fairly straightforward journey up the M6 and across the A69, we arrived at Housesteads a bit after half ten before the hordes that were in the car park by the time we headed back down. The art installation will be taken down at the weekend and I was pleased to have seen it. We'd scoped out a dog friendly pub and headed there for our lunch. Good food and beer (and a shop selling their own brews.) Bailey was particularly pleased with Dad's order of venison burger and he charmed the lady who served us who was also a border terrier owner.

We then headed back up to the wall and back along in the direction of Housesteads to Sycamore Gap. We chose the hardest route there and Bailey needed some help on a particularly tricky section - we chose to come back on an alternative route. Lots of people at the Gap but we did still get a sense of the place and a few shots of the very famous tree. The boggier low path was our route back and Bailey just about kept going and then back down the M6 with a stop at Tebay services. A good day all round.
