Eight year old Fanny Adams was murdered on the 24th August 1867 in a hop garden in Alton.
Her headstone, in the Alton cemetery is attractive and obviously visited and cared for.

The well known phrase “sweet Fanny Adams” was evidently first used in 1869 by sailors in the Royal Navy - the term eventually became an euphemism for ‘sweet nothing’
