BUSINESS END OF A BALD EAGLE

These are the talons of a Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus); I can tell you from personal experience that you don't want to be grabbed by even one of these.  The crushing power of this eagle's talons and feet is unbelievable.

This shot is at the zoo in Milwaukee and this bird was injured in the wild and was unable to be released after rehabilitation...it was shot and was blind in one eye.  It is used in raptor education programs at the zoo and in classrooms.

I often have a "big" lens when I visit the zoo and the bird trainers always ask me to come downstage after the show and get close to the birds so they get used to large lenses and see that they are nothing to be afraid of.
