Except for Merino, wool prices have been depressed for the last few years and don't cover the cost of shearing.  Some farmers are replacing the traditional breeds of sheep e.g. Romney, Suffolk, Cheviot with breeds like Wiltshire and Dorper which shed their wool naturally and don't need to be shorn.
