Thornton Heath: Multi-Instrumentalist

More multi-talented in large

Well, this afternoon was a bit different: I spent several hours in Thornton Heath with the Music Relief Foundation, a local community charity providing musical activities and education for children and their families. I'd been in touch with them after they advertised their need for a photographer, and today I went to meet them and took some pictures of the staff as they held a busking event with a small band of children on keyboards, percussion, and guitars. MRF offer affordable music lessons as well as a range of activities and events (particularly during school holidays), so seem pretty active in trying to make music accessible.

The busking band was very well managed, with a percussion tutor and this multi-instrumentalist quickly laying down a solid track backbone on a looper while getting the children to add their sounds and improvisations in a way that contributed without rocking the safe stability of the overall sound.

We'll see whether they like my approach &c., but it seemed promising to me, and I really enjoyed meeting the charity staff and music tutors. Tom appeared half-way through (I'd not anticipated being there for so long...), so we had a coffee when he arrived, then an amble after the performances were over.

A handful of Thornton Heath shots are here (or right from Dare to dream)
