…………………....……Blip 11

Uploaded Saturday 29th October for  Monday 29th August 2022

We arrived in Southampton yesterday afternoon and spent the remainder of the day walking along the old city walls and searching out various historical sites to visit in more detail.

Today we spent time visiting the beautiful Tudor House Museum and Gardens. This house dates back to 1348 when a wealthy merchant owned it.
It was wonderful wandering from room to room in this substantial, and very old building.

Across the road was St Michael’s Church - it is the oldest building in Southampton still in use and was founded in 1070.

The extra photos
- The Hythe Ferry and Pier Railway. This is the oldest pier railway in continuous service in the world.

- Bargate - a medieval gatehouse built around 1180 and was the main gateway into Southampton

- The Pilgrims Fathers Memorial, also known as the Mayflower Memorial.
