Life's tangled skein

Sheriffmuir

Today we went on a car treasure hunt in support of two friends who are doing a "Three Land Challenge" - three 26.2 mile Moonwalks, raising funds for Breast Cancer research. Part of the route took us over Sheriffmuir, which is where the photograph was taken.

Sheriffmuir is most famous as the site of a battle, in 1715. While the battle's outcome was not decisive in and of itself, the failure to win marked the beginning of the end of the Jacobite uprising in Scotland.

This landscape is typically Scottish - the coarse grass and dark heather, the clouds low over the hills. This photograph was of course taken in May - can you imagine how bleak the place would be in November, when the battle was fought?
