Isle of the Youths

Slow Sunday morning. In the afternoon we went to visit the Spreepark again. It was the last tour of the year and there might be no tours next year because they plan to open the park again. We took the Ringbahn to Treptower Park and walked along the river. We did stop for a drink and enjoyed the lovely sunshine. It is quite astonishing, 20+ degrees C at the end of October. We found some nice beer gardens on the way that we will need to investigate. Extra is the Haus Zenner which has been going for 200 years. The Isle of the Youths (so called since 1949) is an enlarged island in the River Spree. After the war it housed a youth club. More recently it is a venue for theatre and concerts. It has also a very nice beer garden.

In the Spreepark we had a different tour guide who told the story slightly differently. The light was less harsh but rapidly fading. I would so love to properly explore the place. Who knows, this might have been the last chance to see it in its current state.
