Beech leaf mine

I spotted this beech leaf while out for a walk. The little squiggle is the tunnel of a tiny caterpillar. The noticeable thing is the green patch on the leaf. Apparently, the caterpillar secretes an enzyme which prevents the tree from withdrawing nutrients and keeps this area good to feed on. Clever stuff!
