Tourism not wanted

This picture was taken close to the village, where we live since 2002. When came to the village at the end of a day hiking, back in 1990, searching for a place to stay, there was none. It was quite difficult to find something, which we did several kilometres away, in the pouring rain. We had never thought that we would really live there years later.
Anyway, the picture shows something I notice here quite a lot: no place for cyclists or walker. Imagine you wander through the lovely Odenwald and then, oops, well, get lost, you d*** tourist. This is an A-road, where cars/motorbikes are allowed to drive 100kmh, so drive up to 120kmh (motorbikes usually faster and with terrible noise, but that is another topic). Go right or left, if you want to risk your life. Or cross the street and find yourself confronted with a guardrail. Be at least 1.85m, so you can step over quickly (and then go through a field), or, if not, return to where you came from. But don't come ever back.
Believe me, the Odenwald is lovely, just not really tourist-friendly...
