Introducing Horace

This lovely owl was given to me yesterday - another member of my considerable ‘Parliament of Owls’ He is beautiful, so tactile being made of leather with lovely faux fur appendages. He is very heavy, designed as a doorstop, but I dare not put him on the floor - Pixie and Sprite would immediately seize a wing or ear each and have a tug of war with him!
I wanted to give him a name  - something noble, not frivolous, Owls are considered wise!. I settled on Horace - an Ancient Roman poet credited with introducing the phrase ‘carpe diem’ to the language in one of his poems. Translated as ‘seize the day’ it still seems a good sentiment to live by - why worry about tomorrow?
