Girton College, Cambridge

Supported by a prestigious State Scholarship, between 1933 and 1936 Lorna Lloyd read for a BA in English at Girton College, Cambridge (pictured). However, she did not graduate. This was because the University of Cambridge did not award degrees to women in the 1930s. We know from details held in the Girton College archives that Lorna was an active member of the Dramatic Society as a producer, designer and actor, and a member of the Debating Society, while an undergraduate.

Today we thank pandammonium for her kind contribution to our online album of blipper-sourced photos of places related to Lorna.

Lorna mentions Girton just once in the Diary of the war (previously blipped in full in the LornaL journal, and now available as a podcast series with Lorna's great-great niece playing her great-great aunt). This is with reference to her fears for the fate of intellectuals should the German invade Britain. This detail can be found in the diary entry of 29th January 1940, and in Episode 4 of our podcast series

If you have a photograph(s) of any of the places listed below (that you have not blipped already), please do send it(them) to h.hall@napier.ac.uk and we will feature it(them) alongside the others that we have been blipping here since 13th July 2022. Thank you!
