My Northumberland Life

Woodhorn Colliery

What better way to spend your sunshiney bank holiday Monday than at a redundant coal mine?

Actually, the site of Woodhorn Colliery has been done rather well - this building 'The Cutter' houses a museum dedicated to mining and the local community and dotted around outside are preserved machinery and buildings. Alongside this is a country park teeming with wildlife and punctuated with pylons - a great mix of industry and countryside, which Northumberland always was.
