Calendula in the leaves

Dan has been making trips to a nearby town to gather leaves that people have raked up. He scoops them up into a big box he's built on the back of his truck. We cover all the gardens in them. The worms will pull the leaves down and munch on them and add to our soil's fertility.
This is the veggie garden by the walkway. There is a lot of calendula that is still nice and green and blooming. Eventually I will pull them and next year I will have to be a bit more ruthless with pulling them early. They really are taking over the garden. But it's nice for right now.
