Rebus

I’m reading an early Rebus novel, ‘Strip Jack’, after listening to a fascinating interview with the author Ian Rankin. Rankin talks about John Rebus as though he is a real person. I suppose since he has lived with Rebus for 35 years he more or less is. Another thing that is fascinating in the Rebus novels is the vivid portrayal of Edinburgh, which is almost like another character. And I do love the way Rankin pronounces the word ‘murder’, with those  dramatically rolling ‘r’s that non Scots can’t imitate.
