Wainhouse Tower

This is Wainhouse Tower. I took yesterday's blip from the first balcony.
The tower stands 253 ft tall, and is one of the most prominent landmarks in Calderdale.
It was first intended to be a chimney for Washer Lane dye works, owned by John Edward Wainhouse.
Halifax corporation was trying to control the amount of smoke in the atmosphere, and Wainhouse decided it would be a good idea to build a chimney, which would be connected to the dye works by an underground flu. It was completed in 1875, at a cost of £15,000.
The original architect was Isaac Booth. But following a dispute with Wainhouse, Booth left the project, and Richard Dugdale was appointed to take his place.
Dugdale was responsible for the upper section of the tower, with it's balcony and elaborate lantern dome.
